This is the image for the news article titled Rancho Verde nominated for Blue Ribbon Award!Rancho Verde Elementary has been nominated one of 26 public schools in Texas for national Blue Ribbon Schools recognition by the U.S. Department of Education.

Blue Ribbon Schools is a program that recognizes public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students perform at very high levels.

Rancho Verde Elementary opened in 2009. Its principal is Maria Elisa Pineda.

"Student performance on every campus in the district is a point of pride for the Los Fresnos CISD," Superintendent Gonzalo Salazar said. "We are especially proud today to have Rancho Verde Elementary receive the nomination for Blue Ribbon status. Mrs. Pineda and her staff work tirelessly to ensure that our students receive a quality educational experience and their passion and commitment is evident. This nomination is a great indication of returns on their investment in children."

All schools that have been nominated for the 2017 honor were selected as exemplary high performing schools as measured by state assessments. Each school has an economically disadvantaged population of 22 percent or greater.

Pineda was proud of the nomination.

“Our school is honored to receive this nomination," Pineda said. "It’s a testament to the hard work by our teachers and staff to challenge our students to do their best in all subject areas and create an atmosphere to learn. It's a team effort. Our students are the focus of everything we do, and their success in the classroom makes us so proud.”

The nominated schools must now complete a rigorous application process through the U.S. Department of Education. Announcements of the national award winners will be made in September 2017. Schools that receive the award are recognized at the Blue Ribbon Schools awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.
